PhD students at UCA have the opportunity to pursue their research through a joint supervision program, enabling them to earn a dual doctorate awarded by both UCA and a foreign university. This program promotes scientific collaboration between research laboratories across different countries, while providing students with the valuable opportunity to be mentored by two thesis supervisors. It also encourages international mobility among researchers.
The joint supervision process culminates in a single thesis defense (held in one of the two countries), conducted in one of the two national languages. Upon successful defense, students are awarded two degrees:
- A national doctorate from the University Cadi Ayyad.
- A degree equivalent to a doctorate from the partner university.
Procedure for Joint Supervision:
- Initial Contact: In collaboration with their UCA thesis supervisor, the PhD student identifies a partner university where they wish to undertake the joint supervision. The student and their supervisor should reach out to the potential partner university to discuss the terms and conditions of the joint supervision agreement.
- Defining the Terms:Once a partner university is identified, the two thesis supervisors (one at UCA and one at the partner institution) work together to establish the specific conditions for the joint supervision. This includes:
- The duration of the student’s stay at each institution.
- The language in which the thesis will be written.
- The schedule for the thesis defense and the organization of the evaluation committee. - Approval by the Center for Doctoral Studies (CED): After the terms of the joint supervision are agreed upon by both institutions, the proposed arrangement must be submitted for approval to the Center for Doctoral Studies (CED) at UCA. This step ensures that the joint supervision complies with UCA’s regulations and formalizes the agreement before it is finalized with the signatures of the relevant parties.
