Cinema Today: Critical Perspectives and Creative Futures
The Multidisciplinary Faculty of Safi, affiliated with Cadi Ayyad University, will host the international conference entitled “Cinema, Stakes and Creation” on April 21–22, 2026.
This high-level academic event aims to bring together distinguished scholars, critics, and industry professionals to explore the evolving dynamics of cinematic creation in the context of rapid technological change, and to examine its role as a vital medium for critical engagement with contemporary societal issues.
In this perspective, the conference will place particular emphasis on emerging narrative forms, the evolution of visual aesthetics, and the diverse ways in which filmmakers express and redefine their creative freedom. It also seeks to highlight cinema’s function as a space of cultural mediation and as a powerful instrument in shaping and transmitting collective memory.
The conference will be structured around a set of key guiding questions:How does cinema convey the filmmaker’s unique and subjective vision? In what ways does it probe the shifting landscapes of the human mind? How does it serve as a medium for expressing dreams, madness, the unconscious, and the invisible? How does it mobilize the richness of forms, the expressive power of light, and the intensity of sensory experience? Finally, what place does Moroccan cinema hold within the broader context of the globalization of imaginaries?
By examining these questions, the conference intends to offer a comprehensive assessment of contemporary cinematic creation and to outline its prospective trajectories in an ever-evolving global landscape.
