يعد برنامج ERANETMED مبادرة مدعومة من البرنامج الإطاري السابع للبحث والتطوير، ويصبو إلى تنسيق أنشطة البحث بين البرامج الوطنية المختلفة لدول الاتحاد الأوروبي،  الدول المشاركة في برامج البحث الإطارية للاتحاد الأوروبي، فضلا عن الدول الشريكة في منطقة البحر الأبيض المتوسط. يركز برنامج ERANETMED بشكل خاص على تعزيز التعاون وتطوير القدرات المشتركة لبرامج البحث في هذه الدول لمواجهة التحديات الكبرى التي تعترض منطقة البحر الأبيض المتوسط وتعزيز التعاون البحثي الأورو-متوسطي.
